Ducorit S8 – next generation grouting

Densit® launches Ducorit® S8, the next generation offshore bulk grouting solution

September 25, 2018

Today, ITW Performance Polymers has launched the DNV-GL-ST-C502 certified Ducorit S8 under the Densit brand. Ducorit S8 is an ultra-high performance pneumatically transferred offshore wind turbine grouting solution. This technology delivers best-in-class installation with superior flexibility and reliability to wind farm designers, contractors and installers.

“Wind energy continues to grow as a strong, dependable source of renewable energy. Our team has developed this next generation grouting solution to meet the specific requirements of our customers globally.” said Guil Silva, VP/GM, ITW Performance Polymers. “Our custom-designed solution enables faster, reliable installations leading to cost-effective operations. The unique material properties, including outstanding flow retention and pumpability, provide much required flexibility during installation. The high fatigue resistance and class-leading shrinkage performance allows increased flexibility for turbine foundation designers.” Installers have the added benefit of working with the highly skilled team of supervisors and project managers at ITW Performance Polymers.

Ducorit S8 has gone through extensive testing and evaluation to receive DNV-GL certification. Ducorit S8 is pneumatically transferred from onboard bulk containers enabling industry-leading mixing and installation speeds as well as minimizing time in port for installation vessels. In addition, its batch mixing architecture consistently delivers a uniform high-quality product. This innovative solution features 100% mixing and pumping redundancy built-in, greatly reducing the risk of equipment downtime and ensuring cost-effective grouting operations.

Ducorit S8 achieves a 28-day characteristic compressive strength of 90 MPa. Despite its rapid early strength development, this is the first cementitious grout that exhibits outstanding pumpability for up to 4 hours. The enhanced flow retention properties make it easy to pump in varying weather conditions during underwater grouting.

Ducorit S8 is the only DNV-GL approved material that has a grout annulus thickness range from 30 mm to 700 mm. In addition, this is the only cementitious grout that is certified for use in temperatures down to 1°C.  This gives installers the freedom to continue installations even in harsh weather conditions, helping to ensure projects are completed within the planned timelines.

“The unique properties of the Ducorit S8 system give installers significant operational freedom. This increased flexibility, along with material reliability, meets the challenging needs of our customers and helps drive the growth of sustainable energy, globally.” added Guil Silva.
