ITW acquired Devcon^® in the 70s. Over the years, we have expanded the product portfolio. We offer a number of different products in the Devcon coatings family. Headquartered at the Danvers, Massachusetts facility, the ITW Performance Polymers production facility makes Devcon industrial coatings ranging from epoxy sealer and steel epoxy to epoxy for plastics and concrete epoxy adhesive. The history of Devcon origins is quite interesting:

During the 1950s, Al Creighton was the founder of Devcon. He was looking for a safer alternative to welding. One of his Army friends, who had survived the perils of war, died while repairing a fuel tank.  This is what drove Al to develop a safe, non-flammable alternative to welding.  That is how Plastic Steel, later named Devcon Plastic Steel^®, was born.

Our Devcon Plastic Steel Putty A was our first product commonly used to rebuild pumps, pipes, and chutes. You can drill it, tap it, and machine it. Pretty much wherever you have metal, you can use this epoxy for metals. Later, the Devcon Plastic Steel Liquid (B) was created.

The Devcon team focuses our innovation efforts on resolving customer problems. This effort begins with our technical team partnering with our customers in the field and working to understand their challenges and issues. Then designing innovative products to eliminate these problems.

We understand deeply the customer requirements and develop tests to mirror their real world applications. Using best practices and industry leading methods and equipment, such as our Instron machines to validate and prove out our products, we keep our industrial strength coatings cutting-edge and develop new industrial coatings that fit what the market needs.

In the production of our Devcon products (whether it’s from the polyurethane family to the epoxy family or the concrete to metal adhesive family), we use high quality resins, metal fillers, and curing agents to produce the finished products. We rely on a highly trained production staff to ensure a consistent product for our customers. Each batch is tested and certified to our standards, ensuring it meets our customer expectations.
