Problem
A wastewater treatment facility in Europe needed to rehabilitate a large reinforced concrete wastewater tank and associated drainage channels that had deteriorated under constant exposure to water, humidity, and aggressive operating conditions. The project covered approximately 1,250 m² of concrete surfaces, including areas inside the tank and drainage channels that required rebuilding with special cement before coating could begin.
Maintaining these structures was critical to preserving the integrity of the plant’s wastewater containment system. Damaged concrete surfaces posed a long-term durability concern, making restoration and protection essential to help reduce future degradation and extend asset service life.
Solution
After deteriorated sections were rebuilt with special cement, the surfaces were prepared using 500 bar high-pressure hydro blasting to create a clean, suitable substrate for coating application.
The restored concrete surfaces were then coated with three coats of Devcon Epoxy Concrete Sealer, creating a protective barrier across all internal tank surfaces. The coating system was selected to seal and protect the repaired concrete in a demanding wastewater environment, helping preserve the asset after structural rehabilitation.
Project Outcome
The customer successfully completed a comprehensive concrete restoration and protective coating project across the wastewater tank’s 1,250 m² surface area. The process rebuilt damaged concrete, prepared the surfaces through high-pressure hydro blasting, and protected the internal tank surfaces with a three-coat application of Devcon Epoxy Concrete Sealer.
The result was a restored wastewater containment asset with a durable protective layer designed to help reduce future concrete deterioration, support safer and more reliable plant operation, and extend the service life of critical wastewater infrastructure.
