The chemical holding tank is a vital piece of equipment in the petrochemical industry. Used for storing a variety of petrochemicals before transportation, the holding tank is an extremely heavy and dynamic structure that places stress on the stability of the concrete foundation. Not only do the various materials and temperatures expand and contract the structure, but everyday weather conditions create a challenge to the structural stability.
The foundation of a holding tank began to demonstrate levels of corrosion due to standing water and other environmental factors. The corrosion was destabilizing the holding tank foundation and needed to be repaired to prevent additional damage. The client was looking for a product solution that would provide long-term resistance to moisture, other environmental influences, and potential corrosive chemicals.
To effectively repair chemical erosion, three Devcon Flexane products were utilized.
- The repair area was cleaned, debris removed, and concrete dried to ensure maximum adhesion.
- Devcon FL-20 Primer & FL-10 Primer were applied to the metal & concrete surfaces, respectively.
Devcon Flexane 80 Liquid was applied to the holding tank foundation seam to seal the area.
Effective Repair in Difficult Environment
The Devcon Flexane 80 Liquid system provided long-lasting repair that withstood the dynamics of the tank, the moist environment, and varying climatic changes experienced by the petrochemical plant.
- With the application of Devcon Flexane 80 Liquid and primers, the corrosion of the petrochemical holding tank foundation was mitigated.
- By protecting the holding tank foundation from continuous erosive and corrosive wear, Devcon Flexane 80 Liquid helps reduce maintenance time by preventing frequent reapplication.
